Continuing the yearlong celebration of the church's centennial, the Divine Liturgy on Sunday April 24 at St. Nicholas, Barberton, was dedicated to all the married couples of the parish. The first special liturgy was offered in October 2015 for all those who had been baptized in the "new" church on Robinson Ave. For this recent liturgy, the parish was honored to have Bishop John present.
In his homily, Bishop John spoke of God centered marriage as being the foundation of a solid church community, and by extension, of society itself. At the conclusion of the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, Bishop John led a prayer of blessing for all couples present. After these prayers, each couple approached the bishop to receive his personal blessing. Over 30 couples had the honor to be recognized by His Grace in this way. Then, the first of the special intonations chanted, called to mind the commemoration of all the deceased couples of the parish from the time of its founding.
Afterward, everyone enjoyed fellowship and a delicious breakfast prepared by members of the church's GCU Lodge 644.
